Reflections

"To be honest when I first heard about social haunting, social ghosts and a ghost lab in Barnsley my thoughts weren’t what does it mean to me but more like what the hell does any of it mean! I attended the first meeting in Barnsley and was surprisingly touched by the emotion of each individuals ‘haunted object’ stories. I began to see how the resonances of things, places and times shape individuals values and actions at a conscious and sub-conscious level. How these things, places and times are always there like shadows casting at times only the faintest shade whilst at other times fully formed and in full view. My hope is that the resonances collected in this research can be brought from the shadows to exorcise some of the 'social ghosts’ that still haunt those communities so traumatised by the economic and social devastation sown by neoliberalism."
